BREAST REDUCTION

Breast reduction can be defined as the surgical reduction of breast volume to achieve a smaller aesthetically shaped breast mound with concomitant relief of the potential symptoms of a large breast. Breast looses shape due to pregnancy, excess weight gain or weight loss due to hormonal disorders. Obese woman with PCOS usually have large breasts. Very large breast causes shoulder pain and or backache. Only certain segments of the breast gland are removed during the surgery. The milk carrying ducts are not disrupted by the surgery.

The placement of the nipple, amount of skin and breast tissue to be removed are pre-marked. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia. The surgery takes about 3-4 hours to complete, depending upon the amount of breast reduction and the technique used. Breast reduction surgery restores the firm feel and round contour of the breast, brings back fullness in the upper pole, and re-positions the nipples to point forward and outwards.

Successful breast reduction surgery can relieve pain in your upper back, neck and shoulders. It might also increase your ability to participate in physical activities and promote a more positive self-image.
